Notarized files

Acronis Advanced File Sync & Share includes a blockchain-based service for file notarization. Notarization means you can verify the integrity of your File Sync & Share files, while achieving regulatory transparency and decreasing security risks.

The notarization service creates a digital fingerprint (i.e., a cryptographic hash) for your file, and stores this fingerprint in a public ethereum blockchain. This enables independent validation of the file's authenticity and proof that the file existed at a specified date and time.

If you delete a file or a file revisionClosed A version of a file, stored for version control purposes. that has been notarized, the notarization transaction is preserved in the blockchain, and the file remains notarized.
It is therefore recommended to save the notarization certificateClosed A blockchain-generated certificate which notarizes the signing of the file. before deletion so that the file fingerprint can be verified.

Identifying notarized files in Sync & Share

In your Sync & Share storage area, notarized files are identified by an icon in the Status column.

  • - indicates that the file is currently in the process of been notarized.

Notarization is performed in batches by a separate, back end system. Files can remain in this status for several hours.
  • - indicates that a previous revision of the file has been successfully notarized, but the current revision has not been notarized.
