Sharing folders

When you share a folder, you have control over who gets access, what type of access they get, and if and when that access is revoked.

When you share a folder, each individual and each member of a share group that you specify to share your content receives an invitation email.

Those who accept your invitation are called share members.

Types of share member

There are four types of share member:

  • Owner

The person who owns the folder and initially shares it. The shared folder is located in their File Sync & Share storage.
Share owners can manage the list of share members and their individual permissions to the folder contents.

  • Share group members

You can invite share groups to a folder share.

To find out more about share groups, see Share groups.
  • Individual members

A user of your organization's File Sync & Share system.
Depending on the permissions which the owner has granted to individual internal members (and possible File Sync & Share administrator restrictions), individual members may or may not be able to:

    • edit and delete content.

    • view the list of share members and their permissions.
    • invite new members.
  • External members

People who are not users of your organization's File Sync & Share system. They are invited by the system to enable a guest accountClosed A guest account is an account, created to give non-File Sync & Share users temporary, limited access to content which has been shared with them or which they have been invited to sign (Advanced File Sync & Share only)..
Depending on the permissions which the owner has granted to external members (and possible File Sync & Share administrator restrictions), external members may or may not be able to edit and delete content.

If you are the folder share owner, this is indicated below the shared folder name.
If you have set an expiration date for the share, it will also appear, and will provide a shortcut to the share management screen.
