--cataloging={full|fast}

Cataloging a backup adds the contents of the backup to the data catalog. The data catalog enables you to easily find the required data version using the GUI and to select it for recovery.

Cataloging is always performed as soon as a backup is created or exported to another vault. The --cataloging parameter enables you to choose between full and fast cataloging.

Full cataloging

If the parameter value is full or is not specified, the backup contents are cataloged to the highest possible level of detail. This means that the following data will be displayed in the catalog:

Fast cataloging

You may want to set the parameter to fast if the full cataloging tends to affect the performance of the managed machine or if your backup window is too narrow. The following data will be displayed in the catalog:

To add the full contents of already existing backups to the catalog, you can start the full cataloging manually when appropriate.

Note for Virtual Edition users: When backing up to an unmanaged vault (except for a locally-attached storage), Agent for ESX(i) (Virtual Appliance) always performs fast cataloging.

Data catalog limitations

Encrypted or password-protected data cannot be included in the catalog. Also, cataloging is not supported for certain types of storage. Do not specify the --cataloging parameter:
