A storm supercell turned disastrous on December 10–11, with more than 50 tornadoes spawning across eight U.S. states. One tornado alone left a path of destruction more than 225 miles (402 km) long, affecting four states.
In the wake of the storm, some towns were as much as 75% demolished, and many others saw significant damage as well. With a number of people still unaccounted for, the death toll is expected to exceed 100 individuals, and thousands of homes and businesses were destroyed.
