Indonesian gas giant struck by Hive ransomware

Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) has been hit by a Hive ransomware attack, just days after the group also successfully targeted American healthcare provider Partnership HealthPlan of California (PHC). As a healthcare organization, PHC is a more typical target for the Hive group.

PGN is an undeniably high-value target. The company has an annual revenue of $3 billion, and provides natural gas to around 84 million customers in Indonesia. The Indonesian government owns a majority stake in PGN.

While the company has not publicly responded to reports of the attack, Hive has already leaked 400 GB of data containing 850,000 records as proof of their success. Thus far, no patient data has been included in these leaks.

Acronis Cyber Protect includes Active Protection to detect and stop advanced ransomware threats like Hive before your data is put at risk, while quick and easy disaster recovery capabilities keep any business continuity interruptions to a minimum.
