macOS Monterey update reportedly bricking older Macs

Many Mac users are encountering trouble when updating their computers to macOS Monterey, the latest version of the popular operating system.

As with some previous versions of the OS, the upgrade to Monterey appears to be making some Mac computers unable to boot. While some users are able to regain access using the Apple Configurator utility, others are finding their systems to be bricked entirely. The issues with this update appear to only be affecting Macs using Intel processors, while the new M1 computers seem to have been spared this fate.

Apple has around 15% of the computer market share in the U.S. and about 8% worldwide, and many businesses rely on their Mac systems being operational. Having a secure cloud backup of your data ensures that you don't lose anything when moving to a new system or recovering your existing device.
