Bandai Namco hit by BlackCat ransomware

The Japanese video game giant Bandai Namco, known for publishing franchises like Elden Ring, Pac-Man and Tekken, has been hit by BlackCat/AlphV ransomware.

Bandai Namco is the third-largest games publisher in Japan (after Sony and Nintendo), with an annual revenue of around $7.3 billion. The company is currently investigating what information was accessed and whether any customer data was exfiltrated. They've admitted that there is a chance that customer data for some subbranches might have been accessed.

The BlackCat ransomware gang has claimed responsibility for the attack, but has not yet released any stolen data. This is the same group that compromised Swissport and Moncler earlier this year.

The Active Protection included in Acronis Cyber Protect blocks ransomware like BlackCat and keeps your data safe from encryption and extortion.
