On the heels of prominently featuring Acronis in his recent “Radar for Hybrid Cloud Data Protection” report, analyst Enrico Signoretti spoke with our Chief Cyber Officer, Gaidar Magdanurov for a new episode in GigaOM’s Voices in Innovation podcast series.

The 30-minute conversation focused on how the COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally changed the data protection and cybersecurity landscape, and what the long-term effects of the near-global lockdown will likely be. Naturally, there was a heavy focus on the cyber protection implications of the incredible and unprecedented shift of organizations having their employees work from home.

Enrico and Gaidar discussed the overnight acceleration of digital transformation within organizations, adoption of cloud services, and the glaring security risks that now exist with the vast majority of the world’s workforce operating on home Wi-Fi networks.

There was also a discussion about the increased role that managed service providers are playing in the rapidly evolving corporate IT landscape, as enterprises scramble to provide IT support and additional security to remote end users.

Both Enrico and Gaidar ended up giving their predictions on what the “new normal” will eventually look like and the lasting implications of the pandemic when it comes to cyber protection.

While this session was in no way a product pitch, Gaidar did provide some insights into the benefits that integrated data protection and cybersecurity – such as the synergy offered by the newly launched Acronis Cyber Protect – delivers to the market. This dovetailed nicely into the overall conversation about working from home, especially given the remote work capabilities incorporated in the new service, such as default templates with secure protection plans for remote work devices, a native VPN capability, secure file sync and share integration, and remote data wipe.
