Analyst firm Canalys has named Acronis a Champion in its 2025 Managed Backup and Disaster Recovery (BDR) leadership matrix. Acronis maintained its Champion status from the previous Canalys managed BDR matrix.

Acronis was one of six vendors from a field of 15 to achieve Champion status and one of just three to earn Champion status in consecutive reports. Canalys, a channel-focused firm, cited leadership in the MSP channel and positive feedback from MSPs as two primary reasons why Acronis landed in the Champions square in the matrix.

Acronis recognized for leadership in BDR for MSP partners

The Canalys Managed BDR Leadership Matrix is a comprehensive evaluation tool that assesses and ranks vendors in the managed BDR market. It provides a visual representation of vendors based on their performance in key areas such as market presence, innovation and customer satisfaction. The matrix helps managed service providers (MSPs) and other organizations identify the leading solutions in the BDR space.

This recognition from Canalys provides further confirmation that Acronis has earned its place as a leader for MSP partners in the BDR space. Acronis will work to extend its leadership role in the MSP channel with new and enhanced solutions, as well as with services and programs for MSPs.

How Canalys determines champions

Canalys analysts evaluate vendors based on a set of stringent criteria to determine which are named Champions. These criteria include:

  • Revenue growth: Strong financial performance and consistent revenue growth.
  • Market presence: A significant and growing customer base, particularly in the MSP segment.
  • Innovation: Continuous development and enhancement of platform capabilities.
  • Customer satisfaction: Positive feedback and high satisfaction ratings from customers.
  • Strategic focus: A clear and effective strategy for addressing the needs of the MSP market.

The firm breaks vendors down into Champions, Contenders, Scalers and Foundations. The firm notes that Champions demonstrate “both continued improvement in management, strategy and execution, and a commitment to driving future improvements.”

Canalys then assigns a leadership score, which shows the vendor’s current standing, as well as a momentum score, which measures the vendor’s degree of change. Acronis earned the highest leadership score of any vendor in the matrix.

Why Canalys named Acronis a Champion

Canalys cited several key factors in once again naming Acronis a Champion in the Managed BDR Leadership Matrix:

  • Strong revenue growth: Acronis has demonstrated robust financial performance, with significant year-over-year revenue growth.
  • Large MSP base: The company has a substantial and loyal MSP customer base, exceeding 20,000 MSPs.
  • Focus on the MSP market: Acronis has consistently prioritized the MSP market, tailoring its solutions to meet the unique needs of MSPs.
  • Platform expansion: The company has been actively expanding its platform capabilities, integrating advanced cybersecurity features and launching Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) and Professional Services Automation (PSA) tools.
  • Enhanced cybersecurity technology: Acronis has continuously improved its cybersecurity technology, incorporating AI and machine learning to enhance threat detection and response.

By excelling in these areas, Acronis has solidified its position as a leader in the managed BDR market. This recognition from Canalys underscores Acronis's commitment to providing top-tier, integrated solutions that help MSPs protect their clients' data and operations effectively.
