It’s not often that one product so completely dominates the rest in a number of important performance measurements. Yet the AV-TEST Institute, an international and independent research lab specializing in IT security and malware research, showed that Acronis True Image is up to 10 times faster than its competition! But before examining those juicy findings, let’s talk about how the institute ranked its ease of use.
Backup software is to data protection as popcorn is to a movie—you require the former to ensure you get the most out of the latter. But just like you shouldn’t have to be a film major to enjoy the popcorn, you shouldn’t have to be an IT expert to understand how to back up — you don’t have the time, and neither does your data. Acronis knows this, and so does the AV-TEST Institute that put a range of popular backup solutions to the test — Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation, Carbonite Personal PLUS, CrashPlan for Home and iDrive.
Acronis came out on top. Its display was described as “nice and modern,” with setting changes and interactions described as “easy and self-explanatory.”
These IT and anti-virus experts evaluated the backup solutions based on ease-of-use—from novice to expert. They also examined how easy it is to install, adjust settings, and set up backup plans — all things most people wouldn’t think about when choosing a backup solution, but that are absolutely vital to a happy, healthy, and consistent backup experience.
In the usability category, Acronis came out on top. The report described the user interface as “nice and modern” and described setting changes and interactions as “easy and self-explanatory.”

The report detailed a few shortcomings of other solutions: “The main issue with the usability of Carbonite is that some file extensions such as mp4 videos or executables are not added by default to the backup job but need to be selected individually, which a user will not notice when adding a directory to backup.” It added that “CrashPlan has a feel of an antiquated user interface.”
You’d think that Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation would be tired of all the winning at this point. But when it came to performance, the findings confirmed Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation as the front-runner once again.
The report read: “Every performance test was led by Acronis, which is on average twice as fast, in some cases being 10 times as fast as the competition. CrashPlan and iDrive both came in second, achieving similar scoring. Carbonite as a pure cloud solution was not considered.”
Acronis outperformed the competition in all test scenarios. It was the solution that used HDD and SSD drives to their fullest potential. It was also the leader when backing up changed incremental files, with other solutions falling short. Both tests rank Acronis as the leader, with its easy-to-use interface and self-explanatory setup.
