We’ve all heard the phrase “time is money.” If you’ve ever questioned the truth of that statement, consider this: 98 percent of organizations surveyed by the Rand Group reported that a single hour of downtime costs over $100,000. Advancements in technology make that number both astounding and understandable ... every minute counts.

That’s why Update 2 for Acronis Backup, the recently launched set of enhancements, focused on addressing user-benefits that would deliver savings that went beyond “just” data. Let’s take a closer look.

Time really is money

Acronis Backup is designed such that any user can easily implement advanced, secure, and reliable backups. With the latest enhancements, we added greater flexibility to administrative roles. This functionality introduces greater efficiency and cost-savings for the business because IT managers can now delegate responsibilities to less experienced staff, allowing the seasoned pros to focus on more demanding tasks.

Update 2 also simplifies deployment of virtual machines (VMs). A new, all-in-one VMware appliance makes it possible to deploy a VMware virtual machine (VM) as a prebuilt image, with everything needed to run already built in. The latest update also enables IT managers to tackle bigger projects, like testing new software, upgrades or configurations securely in their VM “sandbox”, by delivering a VM-in-a-box.

Meanwhile, data on a physical system like a laptop still needs protection, so Update 2 includes enhanced scheduling controls to ensure backups run as planned – regardless of whether a laptop is running on battery power, is connected to Wi-Fi or a VPN, or by preventing it to go into sleep-mode.

Built-in and flexible storage brings additional savings

Acronis Backup now includes five gigabytes of free Acronis Cloud Storage so users can enjoy double protection for their most critical data. This integrated feature makes backing up to Acronis Cloud Storage seamless, and offers a cost-effective, secure way to implement a 3-2-1 backup plan.

If you’re already using or considering AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud or another public cloud solution, we’re with you. Acronis Backup users can easily customize scalable storage solutions to suit their needs, ensuring they not only control where their data lives, but can balance the value of data and storage costs.

New and old technologies alike can save you more, too

Older technologies can still be an asset in today’s day and age. Case in point: while tape drives may seem old-school to some, they are a budget-conscious way to store “cold” data (anything you want to archive, but probably don’t need to access very often or very quickly). LTO-8 is the latest generation of an open-source standard for tape drives: it’s denser and faster than previous generations. Tape-believers – including many Acronis Backup users – are adopting this standard, so Update 2 includes enhancements that make it easy for them to enjoy the balance of storage flexibility and cost-effectiveness of LTO-8 tape drives.

Similarly, we know Apple and Microsoft deliver distinct benefits for their users. With the latest update we worked to save users unnecessary IT headaches. Acronis Backup now supports macOS 10.13 High Sierra. Meanwhile, Windows users can recover Office365 to Exchange Server Mailbox and vice versa.
